Has therapy been helpful or harmful? Has it been both, but at different times or simultaneously?

Journaling has often been a source of clarity for me, offering insights into various questions similar to those posed above.

In my experience, therapists often don’t ask the questions that would be most helpful, leaving me to figure things out on my own, which in turn leads to personal insights here.

Throughout my self-healing journey, I’ve asked several therapists whether my self-awareness interferes with treatment. They appeared indifferent.

Through my experiences, I’ve developed a personal understanding of the complexities of identity within a therapeutic setting. I intend to share these insights, highlighting that my story is just one among countless Black women who have been let down and dismissed when voicing concerns about unfair treatment due to their race and gender.

Before I sought a diagnosis and took charge of guiding the sessions, my trauma was a secondary concern in therapeutic settings…
