Being raised in an Indian household meant that there was no room to have ‘safe foods’, and it was seen as disrespectful not to finish your plate, and there is no room not to like the food that is made for you. This often meant that as a toddler, I would scream and cry if my mum and dad tried to feed me anything that I didn’t like. This led to me vomiting, and as I got older, I just stopped eating anything I didn’t like or refused to open my mouth if they tried to feed me. This was one of the reasons why I was underweight as a child.
