In reality, Black people often feel the need to work twice as hard to receive opportunities extended to White people. A study published by the Center for Talent Innovation found that Black professionals were more likely to be ambitious than their White counterparts. Nearly two-thirds of Black respondents shared feeling they had “to work harder than their colleagues to advance in their careers” and that they face “barriers to advancement that are largely invisible to White professionals.” While some White people are convinced that, when they see a Black person in a position of power, they “didn’t earn it,” research shows it’s much more likely they worked much harder to access that opportunity.
