TikTok, a Chinese short-form video hosting service, has grown into much more over the years.

A law banning TikTok in the US has been enacted ahead of the scheduled date, January 19, 2025.

People use TikTok for a variety of reasons. Some love to dance and use trendy sounds in their videos, while others buy or sell viral items. Many get inspired by the creativity on the platform, create their own content, or stay informed about world events.

TikTok has created job opportunities for many users.

Other social media platforms feature short-form video content due to the influence of TikTok, including YouTube with Shorts and Facebook and Instagram with Reels.

All over Facebook, I see posts from different pages reminiscing about the platform and expressing a sense of doom.

I feel like TikTok will be reinstated with Trump coming into office, which interestingly coincides with MLK Day.

What are your thoughts?

I watched a content creator’s live on Instagram, and they were deeply affected by the TikTok ban. Someone outside the U.S. mentioned that all their content was still available.
