“Get out of your head and get into your heart. Think less, feel more.”—Osho

First and foremost, this is not conventional writing advice, because I am not a conventional writer. However, you should not overlook this writing advice when writing on Medium.

I will share writing advice that may serve you well if you are new to writing and growing your audience on Medium, or tips to feel encouraged to write when your engagement is low.

The first piece of writing advice that I read on Medium is to niche down, which seems simple enough, but it is not if you are new to writing and growing an audience, so I will share what you can do instead.

To niche down is to choose an area of expertise or interest.

I wrote about identifying your writer’s identity instead of choosing an area of expertise or interest just for the sake of doing it.

Your niche should follow once you develop your writer's identity.

Your writer’s identity is the textual identity you construct in your writing.

I suggest you develop your writer’s identity by writing, reading, and engaging consistently.
